I've updated the Etsy store with some new items for my Ichthyosis fundraiser. Please stop by and check them out. Also, remember I am always open to custom orders -- if you can dream it, I can try to make it.
Moonpie is now completely over the strep/flu combo, and is driving me nuts watching this video on YouTube over and over and over:
Anyone know what they are saying? I recognize lots of the place names, and something something "my Kazakhstan." She really wants to know what they are saying, so a full translation would be AWESOME.

I speak Russian, but I'm not understanding much either...the lyrics seem to be a Kazakh/Russian hybrid. That music video is hilarious, though - reminds me of the old soviet tourism films set to modern pop. I used to work in Central Asia, so I will see if I can get one of my Kazakh friends to listen and provide at least a rough translation.

love the photo of the tree in Belize. I'd be happy to help promote the fundraiser if you like. :)

Hi Ginevra,
Thanks for the offer. Of course I'd love any help raising money. Please let me know what you have in mind.
Ruta, thank you so much! I suspected it was Kazakh because I couldn't really understand it, and I'm pretty good at getting at least the gist of what is said in Russian. I'd love to hear at least what the chorus is saying so I can tell Moonpie.

OK, here are lyrics to the entire song:
The chorus means, basically
Hello, capital, you're free as a bird, this is Astana.
Hello, wind? the mountains stretch to the sky, this is Almaty.
Hello, earth, here is our soul, this is Karaganda.
Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, this is my land.

Thank you, Sara, thank you!
Here is how Google translated the lyrics above:
Hello, capital, and you're free as a bird, it is Astana. Hello, Medeo, the mountains stretch to the sky, it is Almaty. Hello, earth, soul miner's here, it Karaganda. Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, here's my land. I'm going to Marrickville, and there in Ust-Kamenogorsk, I'll drop in there Leninogorsk naveet sadness. Petropavlovsk phones me, a friend calls to stay there, with him going to Kustanai, where let's sing a song. Hello, capital, and you're free as a bird, it is Astana. Hello, Medeo, the mountains stretch to the sky, it is Almaty. Hello, earth, soul miner's here, it Karaganda. Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, here's my land. Friend, it is time, in front of Kyzyl-Orda, there Shymkent or Taras, Davie quickly on the gas. View Taldy Kurgan, all the threads are pulled in Dzhezkazgan, in Aktobe rains in Uralsk cool days. Hello, capital, and you're free as a bird, it is Astana. Hello, Medeo, the mountains stretch to the sky, it is Almaty. Hello, earth, soul miner's here, it Karaganda. Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, here's my land. Hello, capital, and you're free as a bird, it is Astana. Hello, Medeo, the mountains stretch to the sky, it is Almaty. Hello, earth, soul miner's here, it Karaganda. Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, here's my land. Hello, capital, and you're free as a bird, it is Astana. Hello, Medeo, the mountains stretch to the sky, it is Almaty. Hello, earth, soul miner's here, it Karaganda. Hello, country, this is my Kazakhstan, here's my land.
I think Lorraine is right, it's "This Land Is Your Land" with a better beat!

The first half of the song is actually in Russian, here is what it says, word for word (except maybe the names of the places):
My rough translation would be:
I’ll go to Adyral
Through the Caspiy to Aktau
I’ll look at Kokshytau
Then continue the trip.
Call Petropavlovsk --
A friend invited to visit,
I’ll go to Kustanai with him
Let’s sing a song.
Chorus:
Hello capital
You are a free bird,
This is Astana.
Hello Medeo,
mountains stretch to the sky
This is Almata.
Hello earth,
Here is coal miner’s soul
This is Karaganda.
Hello country,
This is my Kazakhstan,
This is my land.
Let my soul sing
Kyzyl-Horde is waiting for me
There Chimken or Taras
Quickly push the gas.
Look at Taldy Kurgan
I can’t forget Dzhezkazgan
In Aktuba there’s rain,
In Uralsk there’re cool days.
Chorus.
Then there's the second half in Kazakh, which is what Sara transcribed I think.
